Are you part of a book club? Are you looking for a new book to read? If you live in the Victoria area, I'd be happy to come to one of your club meetings to talk about my book Tea at the Empress. And I'd be happy to offer a special discount on my book to the members of your club.
Tea at the Empress is set in Victoria. It tells the story of Edith, a young suffragist in the early twentieth century. In 1914, her Vic High sweetheart goes to war and never comes back. This fact changes her life forever. Edith then gets a job as a copy-girl at the Daily Colonist and strives to become a writer on the paper.
Edith's story is told in two alternating timelines: from 1927 to 1929, and from 1914 to 1922. In the chapters of the early years, we learn about the roots of her troubles. Then in the chapters of the later years, Edith comes face to face with the consequences of her life choices.
Edith is an adventurous, witty character and a lot of fun. Though tragedy plagues her, the eventual ending is positive and uplifting.
